HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay softball team split a CCAA doubleheader on Saturday against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Pioneers dropped game one, 4-1, but answered in the second game 3-2 in eight innings by way of a walkoff two-run home run from
Madeline Ramirez.
Game One - CSUDH 4, Cal State East Bay 1
Annelise Garcia hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning, as
Sarah Duran scored the first run of the day, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
The Toros though scored four unanswered runs for the remainder of the game, including a solo home run from Kaylee Hull in the top of the second inning, a two run double off the bat of Alex Davis in the top of the fourth and an RBI single from Raquel Jaime in the top of the fifth.
Cal State East Bay was limited to six hits, two of which were from Garcia.
Game Two - Cal State East Bay 3, CSUDH 2 (8 innings)
After four scoreless innings, the Toros got on the board in the top of the fifth when Claudia Valencia hit an RBI triple to drive in Kianna Abellera for a 1-0 lead.
With their final chance to tie or win in the bottom of the seventh, the Pioneers tied the game at 1-1 as Garcia scored on an RBI single from Duran.
In the eighth inning, CSUDH took a 2-1 lead on a pinch hit RBI single from Dafne Bravo.
With
Kylie Coelho on base in the bottom of the eighth, Ramirez came to the plate. And she delivered a two-run home run to right field, as the Pioneers won 3-2 on a walkoff win.
In game two,
Ysabella Cortez went 2-for-3,
Anamaria Beard picked up the win in the circle, with four strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched.
The Pioneers return to action for the Stanislaus State Tournament of Champions, which goes from April 1-3. The first game of the tournament for Cal State East Bay takes place on Friday, April 1 with a matchup against Chaminade from Pedretti Sports Complex in Turlock, California. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m.
