HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team looks to continue its recent surge with two key road contests this week, as the Pioneers hit the road to face Sonoma State on Thursday, Feb. 10, beginning at 7:30 p.m., before a road contest at Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

CSUEB (6-12, 4-8 CCAA) has won two-straight games and three of its last four overall after a thrilling home victory over No. 9-ranked Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 3.

The Pioneers have won five of their last six contests against Sonoma State and four in a row against the Seawolves. East Bay has won three of its last four against Humboldt State, including a win in its last trip to Arcata on Jan. 23, 2020. 

Junior forward Tone Patton was named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week on Tuesday, after recording his best statistical game in a Pioneer uniform in last week's win over No. 9 Cal State San Marcos.

The Chicago native finished with a season-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with 16 rebounds and two blocks. The junior forward also came up clutch down the stretch, scoring a short jumper with 3:43 left in the game to put East Bay ahead for good, 69-67.

With East Bay missing senior forward Zafir Williams, Patton stepped up and recorded a season-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with 16 rebounds and two blocks.

The Pioneers have the CCAA's sixth-best scoring offense, averaging 72.3 points per game, and have made the second-most 3-point field goals in the conference with 161 (8.9 per game). In addition, East Bay is second in the conference in assists per game (14.6), second in free-throw shooting (.732) and fifth in 3-point field-goal percentage (.339).

Senior forward Zafir Williams ranks eighth in the CCAA averaging 14.6 points per contest, and has the second-best free-throw percentage in the conference (.881) and is seventh in field-goal percentage (.440).

Junior guard Jesse Galloway ranks fourth in the conference in assists per game (3.9) and has the CCAA's second-best assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3), while sophomore guard Kaito Williams is fourth in 3-point field-goal percentage (.425) and 10th in 3-poiners made per game (2.0).
