Pioneers Drop Close One Against Stan State, 68-66

TURLOCK, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped a close contest on the road against Stanislaus State, 68-66, on Thursday evening at Fitzpatrick Arena.

Freshman guard DJ Sanders scored a game-high 16 points off the bench, Justin Vigil finished with 14 points and six rebounds and Kaito Williams added 14 points with three steals.

CSUEB (9-14, 7-10) led by two at halftime, 36-34, and the game went back-and-forth in the second half. Two free throws by Tim Andreolli put the Pioneers ahead 65-64 with 2:33 remaining.

But a 3-point shot by Stan State's Marlon Short with 19 seconds to play put the Warriors ahead by two, before missed threes by Josh Dhatt and Vigil were off target in the final seconds.

Cal State East Bay returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 26, on the road against No. 11-ranked Chico State beginning at 7:30 p.m.
