TEMPE, Ariz. — The No. RV Cal State East Bay water polo team earned a morning victory over Salem, 13-9, as Pioneers head coach
Lisa Cooper recorded her 300th-career victory at the ASU Invitational on Saturday at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
CSUEB (5-2) also earned a 21-11 win against Ottawa University (AZ), and resumes action next weekend at the Santa Clara Mini beginning on Friday, Feb. 19.
Game 1: CSUEB 13, Salem 9
Jordan Jarandson scored a career-high four goals along with an assist to lead East Bay to its second win over Salem in consecutive days.
Junior
Maddie Wittkowske and
Adrien Van Dyke scored three goals apiece, while freshman
Bailey Barlow added two goals in the victory. Sophomore goalkeeper
Daniela Passoni had three saves to earn the win.
The Pioneers responded from an early 3-0 deficit to score five-straight goals, capped off by Van Dyke's score to go take a 5-3 lead with 2:43 remaining in the first half. Wittkowske's third goal of the first half gave CSUEB a 7-4 advantage going into halftime.
Jarandson followed with two goals in the third quarter, and a score by freshman
Luna Sarmiento made it 12-6 with 7:39 to go in the game.
Game 2: CSUEB 21, OUAZ 11
Senior
Auriel Bill scored six goals with two assists, while
Briana Ruiz,
Leti Mosqueda,
Caroline Vollmer,
Payton Bosque and Barlow each scored two goals apiece.
Brighton Kinney recorded seven saves with two steals to earn the win in the net.
East Bay led throughout the game and built a 12-3 lead at halfime after Bosque's goal to close the half.
