HAMMOND, Ind. — Cal State East Bay women's soccer assistant coach
Mary Whisler has been named new women's soccer head coach at Purdue Northwest University, the school announced on Tuesday.
Whisler has spent the past three seasons as a Pioneers assistant under fourth-year head coach
Robin Hart. She was an instrumental figure in the program's turnaround at East Bay, helping the team improve from six wins in 2019 to its first-ever CCAA Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021.
CSUEB finish with an 11-5-5 overall record in 2021, the program's most wins since 2007.
During her time at East Bay, Whisler's responsibilities included all facets of recruiting, while also assisting with camps, fundraising and community service activities. She helped mentor nine all-conference performers during this time, including second-team selections
Tami Kwong,
Jill Nelsen and
Riley Spitzer in 2021.
Prior to East Bay, Whisler spent three seasons on the coaching staff at Saint Mary's College. She also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Academy of Art.
Whisler was a two-time All-American, a two-time Academic All-American and a three-time First-Team All-Conference selection during her standout playing career at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind. She graduated in 2009 with her B.A. in psychology.
