HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team will host the 2021 East Bay Fall Classic this weekend at Pioneer Stadium, with two contests scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10 and two more matches on Sunday, Sept. 12.
CSUEB (0-1-1) takes on Holy Names in this weekend's opener on Friday, Sept. 10, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Humboldt State will face Hawai'i Pacific in Friday's nightcap beginning at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 12, the Pioneers have a showdown against Hawai'i Pacific at 11:30 a.m., before the weekend invitational concludes with Humboldt State against Holy Names at 2 p.m.
Live stats will be available for all four contests, and all four will be streamed live on CCAA Network.
Cal State East Bay is 4-1 all-time against Holy Names, including winners of four straight against the Hawks. In the teams' last meeting in 2019, the Pioneers edged out a 2-1 victory in double overtime.
CSUEB is facing Hawai'i Pacific for the first time since 2010, and is looking for its first win over the Sharks.
East Bay is coming off its first two matches of the 2021 season, which included a tie against Dominican, 1-1, on Sept. 2, followed by a narrow one-point defeat at Cal State Monterey Bay, 2-1, on Sept. 5.
Senior
Miles Ramos scored the first goal of the season for the Pioneers against Dominican, and added an assist in the match against Cal State Monterey Bay. The Walnut Creek native currently leads East Bay with three total points on the season.
Junior
Josh Gaeckle scored his first goal of the young season at Cal State Monterey Bay, while sophomore defender
Aaron Farnan has recorded one assist on the year.
In addition, junior goalkeeper
Kelekolio Mateo Jr. has racked up 26 saves through two matches this season, including 16 saves in the tie against Dominican. The 16 saves were third-most in a single game for the program since 2005.
