HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team notched its first win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Holy Names at Pioneer Stadium, 3-0.
CSUEB (1-1) had three different players score their first goal in a Pioneer uniform on Tuesday, including senior
Tami Kwong, freshman
Kylie Newman and freshman
Jenna Villanueva.
Newman also recorded her first-career assist, while senior
Kayla Morales, senior
Ana Herrera, junior
Maya Farkas and freshman
Lexie Randolph also had one assist apiece.
Kwong got the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the first half, as her shot from straight on deflected off a Holy Names defender and skipped past goalkeeper Nyah Summers and into the net in the 12th minute.
Newman gave East Bay the breathing room it needed in the second half, as her beautiful shot from 25 yards out put the Pioneers comfortably ahead 2-0 in the 66th minute.
CSUEB tacked on one more goal in the 78th minute, as Villanueva's breakaway down the right side led to her knocking a shot past the diving goalkeeper.
The Pioneers out shot Holy Names 29-2 for the game, as CSUEB tallied nine shots on goal.
Cal State East Bay returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 9, as it plays host to Dominican beginning at 7 p.m.
