BELLINGHAM, Wash. —
The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team's dream season came to end Thursday afternoon in a dramatic penalty kick defeat to Point Loma, 1-1 (8-7), in the NCAA Tournament First Round contest hosted by Western Washington.

The Match finished after 11 PK rounds, as junior goalkeeper Jordan Smith recorded a career-high 15 saves. Smith's previous single-game high for saves was 10, which she tallied on three separate occassions in 2019.

Senior Riley Spitzer got the Pioneers on the scoreboard early in the first half, as the second-team all-conference midfielder knocked in a shot that deflected off a Point Loma defender and into the net in the 9th minute. Freshman Jenna Villanuevaassisted on the goal, which was the Manteca native's team-leading fifth of the season.

CSUEB finishes the season as the 2021 CCAA Tournament Champions with an 11-5-5 overall record, which is the program's most wins since 2007. With 24 career victories, fourth-year Cal State East Bay head coach Robin Hart ranks third all-time in program history.
