HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team is set for two road conference showdowns this weekend, as the Pioneers take on No. 19-ranked Cal State LA on Friday, Oct. 8 beginning at 4:30 p.m., before facing Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.
Both matches will be streamed live on CCAA Network, and live stats will be available.
East Bay has never defeated Cal Stat LA as a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), but did tie the Golden Eagles in a contest played in Hayward in 2017. The Pioneers are also looking for their first-ever victory over Cal Poly Pomona as a member of the CCAA, although they have tied the Bronco four times.
CSUEB (2-5-1, 1-1 CCAA) is coming off its first CCAA victory of the season, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay in a thrilling contest, 2-1, on Oct. 3. Freshman
Clayton Branco scored the game-winning goal — the first score of his career — off an assist from senior
Tommy Flora in the 78th minute, after
Nikita Charsov tied the score 1-1 with his first goal off the season with just seven seconds remaining in the first half.
Flora assisted on both Pioneer goals in the victory, which were his first two points of the season. Junior
Josh Gaeckle leads East Bay this season with three goals and one assist for seven total points, while sophomore
Daniil Menshikov and senior
Miles Ramos have recorded one goal and one assist apiece.
