ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay water polo team won its second-consecutive game to begin conference play on Saturday afternoon, defeating Sonoma State 14-7 at Rudloff Pool.
Juniors
Ivanna Anderson and
Leti Mosqueda scored three goals apiece, while sophomore goalkeeper
Daniela Passoni scored her first goal of the season late in the third quarter to put the Pioneers ahead 10-4.
Freshman
Jordan Jarandson added two goals, senior
Auriel Bill scored twice with an assist and junior
Payton Bosque tallied two assists.
"It was a great team effort both defensively and offensively," said head coach
Lisa Cooper. "We had different people stepping up and scoring goals, which was great to see."
Passoni's goal went the length of the pool and past the Sonoma State keeper on a CSUEB counter attack.
The Pioneers took control late in the first period, going on a 7-0 scoring run that lasted until the third quarter. Mosqueda scored all three of her goals during the pivotal spurt.
Cal State East Bay returns to action next weekend at the Tina Finali Invitational hosted by California Lutheran on Feb. 28-29.
