Pioneers Return Home for Midweek Match vs. La Verne

HAYWARD, Calif. -- After a tough weekend in Los Angeles, the Cal State East Bay water polo team is back home to host a midweek match against La Verne on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 2 p.m. in Pioneer Pool.

As part of a special promotion, the first 100 fans with a Bay Card with receive a free "Pack this House" t-shirt.

CSUEB will also be celebrating National Student-Athlete Day during the game to honor the outstanding academic accomplishments of Pioneer student-athletes in all 15 of the University's sports.

La Verne enters the week with a 4-8 record, coming off a 13-12 loss to Cal Lutheran last Tuesday and a 7-6 win over Claremont Mudd-Scripps on Saturday. The Leopards visit Fresno Pacific Tuesday evening before continuing north to Hayward to take on the Pioneers.

CSUEB traveled to Loyola Marymount last weekend to battle four tough opponents at the LMU Invitational. They fell to No. 14 Princeton and No. 16 Wagner, dropped a double-overtime heartbreaker to Pomona-Pitzer by a 13-12 score, and came up just short in another overtime thriller against Bucknell to close the tournament.

Adrien Van Dyke racked up five goals in the loss to Bucknell. She also had three against Pomona-Pitzer and four in a win over George Washington last Wednesday, giving the sophomore a total of 12 goals over the last seven days.

Auriel Bill matched Van Dyke with five goals in a single game as well last week, accounting for nearly half East Bay's goal total vs. Pomona-Pitzer. Brittany Smith also had a big scoring week, notching back-to-back hat tricks against George Washington and Princeton.

Goalkeeper Daniela Passoni is coming off an impressive weekend despite going winless. The freshman most recently matched a career high with 15 saves in the overtime contest against Bucknell.
