HAYWARD, Calif. -- Just two days after picking up its third straight victory, the Cal State East Bay water polo team is back on the road in Los Angeles to take on four tough opponents at the 18th annual LMU Invitational.

The Pioneers are coming off an impressive victory over George Washington on Wednesday in which they scored a season-high 16 goals. Adrien Van Dyke tallied four -- one in each quarter -- and leads the 34 goals for the season. Brittany Smith and Auriel Bill both posted hat tricks as well in the victory. Bill, the reigning Division II Player of the Year, paces the Pioneers in total points this Spring and leads all players in the Western Water Polo Association with 33 assists.

Maci Taylor dished out three assists against George Washington, vaulting her up to third on the team in both assists (18) and total points (24) this season.

Freshman goalkeeper Daniela Passoni was also outstanding on Wednesday, racking up nine saves in just two quarters.

East Bay is riding a hot streak, but they face an extremely tough slate of competition this weekend. No. 14 ranked Princeton awaits them in the tournament opener Friday morning. If the Pioneers were to prevail, the Tigers would be the highest-ranked team they've ever beaten.

The road doesn't get much get much easier Friday afternoon when  CSUEB takes on Pomona-Pitzer, the top-ranked team in Division III. The Pioneers and Sagehens have already played an extremely tight match this season, an 11-9 win for Pomona-Pitzer at the Redlands Tournament.

Saturday the Pioneers go up against another nationally ranked squad in No. 16 Wagner, which enters the tournament riding a seven-game winning streak. CSUEB closes out the weekend a few hours later against Bucknell, which is receiving votes just outside the national top-25. The Bison are coming off a 1-3 weekend at San Diego State's tournament.
