TURLOCK, Calif. — The Pioneers' thrilling season came to a tough ending on Saturday, as the Cal State East Bay women's soccer team dropped a close road game at No. RV Stanislaus State, 2-0, at Warrior Stadium.
Despite recording its most California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victories since 2011, Saturday's loss eliminates CSUEB from next week's conference tournament.
The Pioneers (6-9-3, 5-6-1 CCAA) finished seventh in the standings, with the top six advancing to the CCAA Tournament beginning Nov. 12.
Senior forward
Chace Miguel scored a late goal for Cal State East Bay to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 88th minute, but the Pioneers ran out of time from there.
Stanislaus State (14-4, 8-4) scored goals in the 57th and 75th minute to build a two-goal lead that CSUEB was unable to overcome.
Both teams recorded 14 shots apiece on Saturday, while the Pioneers tallied five shots on target. Miguel finished with a team-high two shots, while freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Smith had five saves.
