Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Junior
Tommy Flora scored his first-career goal in a Pioneer uniform on Tuesday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped its road contest at UC Santa Cruz, 2-1.
Flora's goal in the 47th minute came on a header off a free kick by freshman
Kenji Nystrom, knotting the score at 1-1 early in the second half. It was Nystrom's first-career assist, as he's now tied for second on the team with three points behind freshman
Zack Mason's team-leading eight.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Juan Diego Escalante recorded 11 saves in his first start since Sept. 19. Cal State East Bay (2-8, 0-4 CCAA) finished with seven shots total and had six corner kicks on Tuesday, while UC Santa Cruz (5-5-1) tallied seven.
The Pioneers had won two of the last three meetings against UC Santa Cruz before Tuesday's decision.
Cal State East Bay returns to action next weekend, when the Pioneers resume California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on the road at Humboldt State on Oct. 18, and at SF State on Oct. 20.
