HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match, 2-0 to the visiting Chico State Wildcats on Sunday afternoon, September 23 at Pioneer Stadium.

With the loss the Pioneers move to 2-4-1 on the season with a 1-2-1 mark in conference play and a 2-2 outcome through four home contests.

The Pioneers were outshot by the visiting Wildcats, 11-7 with four shots on goal from CSUEB and six shots on goal from Chico State.

Senior Jonathan Alaya (Concord, Calif.) paced Cal State East Bay was three shots with two shots coming on goal. Fellow seniors
Brett Fuchs (Folsom, Calif.) and
Ben Reiter (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) added one shot on goal each while junior
Tyson Griffin (San Diego, Calif.) attempted one shot.

Despite the outcome, head coach
Mike Bielski was proud of his team's effort throughout the match. "It was a tough loss today against a good opponent," expressed Bielski. "We made a few mistakes that they capitalized on and that was the game. We had our chances as well but could not put them away. I give Chico a ton of credit but to some extent we best ourselves. The positive things is we can work with the team this week to correct mistakes. We're right there and the team's attitude is in a great place."

Chico State scored a goal in each of the halves with their game winning goal in the 41st minutes of action followed by their final goal of the afternoon in 77th minutes to claim a 2-0 victory in Pioneer Gymnasium.

Senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) compiled four saves for the match while allowing two goals.

Cal State East Bay will travel to Santa Cruz for a non-conference meeting against UC Santa Cruz on Friday afternoon, September 28 at the Soccer Complex at 4:00 p.m.
