HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team returns to the Hayward Hills with two California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) this weekend. CSUEB will host Stanislaus State on Friday afternoon, September 21 at 4:30 pm and end the weekend with a Sunday morning match against Chico State on September 23 at 11:00 am. All games will be held at Pioneer Stadium.
 
The Bay Area Online Sports Network will nationally broadcast East Bay's Sunday doubleheader against Chico State. The live broadcast will begin at 11:30 am for the women's game and continue throughout the men's match at 2:00 pm.
 
ELEVEN SPORTS USA, is available on national cable systems such as DIREC TV (channel 623), AT&T U-verse (channel 1665), and Verizon Fios (channel 597). WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opening road contest, 1-0 against Cal State San Marcos Friday afternoon, September 14 at The Cage.
 
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) and Joe Takada (Honolulu, Hawaii) paced visiting East Bay with three shots apiece. Ayala managed one shot on goal while Takada chipped in three shots on goal.
 
Marco Campos (Hayward, Calif.) and Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) each attempted two shots for CSUEB with one shot on goal for Cuevas. Tyson Griffin (San Diego, Calif.), Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland), Luis Salazar (San Lorenzo, Calif.), Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) and Jared Johnson (Los Altos, Calif.) all tallied one shot for East Bay. Francisco and Johnson's only shots came on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) compiled 90 minutes in the box for the Pioneers racking up a career-best eight saves. Coronel now has 18 total saves on the season.
 
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team picked up a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) point on the road against nationally ranked UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon, September 16 at Triton Soccer Stadium.
 
With the scoreless stalemate the Pioneers move to 1-3-1 over on the season with a 0-1-1 mark in league play while the Tritons took their first blemish of the 2018 season with as they now stand at 5-0-1 with a 1-0-1 record in CCAA action.
Seniors Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) and Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) accounted four nine of the Pioneers ten shots. Cuevas tallied five shots with two shots on goal and Ayala compiled four shots with one shot coming on goal. Tin Nguyen added one shot to round things out for CSUEB.
 
Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronel continued a stellar weekend in the box with five saves through 110 minutes as he also recorded his second shutout of the season. He ended the weekend with 13 total saves and only one goal allowed. Including a career best eight saves Friday night against Cal State San Marcos.
 
PIONEER POINTS
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with one goal and two points on the season. He is also tops on the team with 13 total shots with five shots coming on goal. Ayala also has CSUEB's lone game-winning goal of the season.
 
Senior Jonathan Cuevas (Reno. Nev.) and Brett Fuchs (Folsom, Calif.) are tops on the team in minutes played. Cuevas leads the Pioneers with 460 minutes played while Fuchs is right behind him with 450 minutes of action.
 
Goalkeeper Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) leads the Pioneers in the box with 23 saves through five games played including two shutouts. His 23 saves are fourth in the conference as he also recorded a career best eight saves against Cal State San Marcos. Juan Diego Escalante (Castro Valley, Calif.) is second on the squad with two saves through 45 minutes of action.
 
SCOUTING STANISLAUS STATE
The Stanislaus State Warriors enter the match against the Pioneers with a 3-3 mark on the season and a 0-2 in the CCAA after losses to Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA. Adrian Yepez is tied for the team lead with two goals and is tops on the squad with two assists and six points. Edgar Benitez and Justin Motzkus have both appeared in three games this season with Benitez leading the way with 12 saves.
 
SCOUTING CHICO STATE
The Chico State Wildcats come into the weekend contest with a 3-2-1 record on the season with a 1-1 CCAA mark after falling to Cal State LA and a bounce back victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Jeremiah Egujie leads the Wildcats with four goal through five games while Eddie Zecena and Justin Bethke have two assists apiece to lead the team. Damion Lewis has played all six games in the goalie box has accounted for 12 saves.
