LA JOLLA, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team picked up a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) point on the road against nationally ranked UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon, September 16 at Triton Soccer Stadium.

With the scoreless stalemate the Pioneers move to 1-3-1 over on the season with a 0-1-1 mark in league play while the Tritons took their first blemish of the 2018 season with as they now stand at 5-0-1 with a 1-0-1 record in CCAA action.

The CSUEB defense was was stout all afternoon as No. 14 UCSD could not find their way past the Pioneers despite the home team Tritons doubling East Bay in shots 21-10. Three of Cal State East Bay shots came on goal with six on goal from UC San Diego.

Seniors
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) and
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) accounted four nine of the Pioneers ten shots. Cuevas tallied five shots with two shots on goal and Ayala compiled four shots with one shot coming on goal.
Tin Nguyen added one shot to round things out for CSUEB.

Senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel continued a stellar weekend in the box with five saves through 110 minutes as he also recorded his second shutout of the season. He ended the weekend with 13 total saves and only one goal allowed. Including a career best eight saves Friday night against Cal State San Marcos.

The Pioneers will return home with conference matches against Stanislaus State on Friday afternoon, September 21 at 4:30 p.m. and Chico State on Sunday morning, September 23 at 11:30 a.m. Both games will take place at Pioneer Stadium.
