BELMONT, Calif., - The Cal State men's soccer team opened their 2018 campaign with a 4-0 road loss to Notre Dame De Namur Friday evening, August 31 at Koret Field.

It was just the Pioneers first season opening loss since the 2014 season when they finished with a 5-8-5 record.

Cal State East Bay found themselves down early as the NDNU scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Naia Graham played his shot to the top of box from 20 yards out in the sixth minute of action. He was assisted on the goal by Tony Andoyan and Adam Lopez as the Argonauts claimed an early 1-0 lead. Josh Santillian added to the home team lead with a header at the back post off corner with from assist by Ruben Sanabia.

Notre Dame De Namur also outshot East Bay 17 to 6 as seven of the the Argonauts shots came at the goal to just three from the Pioneers. Seniors
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) and
Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) both paced CSUEB with two shots apiece with both of Ayala's shots coming on goal.

Senior Luiz Salazar (San Lorenzo, Calif.) and
Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) each chipped in one shot each with Salazar attempting a shot on goal.

NDNU would score one more goal to take a 3-0 advantage before the intermission as Ruben Sanabia played his shot in from the goaline near the post as Adam Lopez and Josh Santillian connected on passes to earn the assists.

The Argonuats final goal on the evening came just after play began in the second half when Ruben Sanabia scored on a free kick from 30 yards out for his second goal of the game. Sanabia finished with two goals and one assist.

Pioneer senior goalkeeper
Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) logged 90 minutes in the box for CSUEB and led the way with two saves.

Cal State East Bay's next match will be their 2018 home opener as they welcome the Academy of Art Urban Knights to Pioneer Stadium on Thursday night, September 6.
