East Bay Softball Falls In Both Ends Of Twinbill At San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay softball team dropped both ends of their Friday afternoon, April 13 doubleheader to open up their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series against Cal State San Marcos.

The Pioneers move to 16-31 on the season with a 10-24 mark in conference play.

In the opening game of the afternoon saw a pitching duel between East Bay's Abby Greer (L, 5-15) (Beaverton, Ore.) and San Marcos' Caitlin Vinyard. Vinyard (W, 6-14) tossed a two hit shutout as the Cougars scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the, 4-0 win.

Greer finished the contest with her 13th complete game of the season, two strikeouts and no walk through 6.0 innings tossed.

Freshman Maddie Ramirez (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Bailee Glover (Reno, Nev.) logged the only two hits for the Pioneers.

In the final game of the afternoon CSUEB was able to find more offense but it was CSUSM who would pickup the, 4-2 home victory to sweep the Friday doubleheader.

Courtney Leyba (Huntington Beach, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with two of the team's nine hits. Maddie Ramirez compiled a hit and an RBI.

Meghan Araneta (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) tallied a hit for East Bay, while Bailee Aguigui (Vacaville, Calif.) and Jennifer Palmares (Elk Grove, Calif.) scored the Pioneers runs of the ball game. Palmares also stole a base and was hit by pitch twice for CSUEB.

Bailee Glover (L, 7-5) picked up her third complete game of the season.

The Pioneers will conclude their weekend road series against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars with a Saturday doubleheader at CSUSM Softball Field.
