Pioneer Softball Splits Twinbill With Warriors to Close Series

TURLOCK, Calif., -- It was another electrifying day of softball at Warrior Field on Saturday, February 17 as Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State split another California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader.

The Pioneers and Warriors split the weekend series 2-2 as East Bay moves to 8-6 on the season and 4-4 in conference action.

Pitchers Bailee Glover (W, 3-1) and Taylor Lara (L, 1-2) both turned in solid performances from the circle. While infielders Jennifer Palmares and Maddie Ramirez were offensive studs with two multi-hit games.

The first contest of the afternoon was a thrilling showdown, similar to the previous two games played on Friday.

Both offenses were swinging the bats with power and accuracy as the Warriors tallied 13 hits and the Pioneers finished with nine.

Stanislaus lit up the scoreboard first with a four run second inning. But the Pioneers would respond with two runs in the third inning after Ramirez doubled up the middle to bring home Palmares for the first scored. Then Glover hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Ramirez.

Another three runs in the fourth to take a, 5-4 advantage. Coutney Leyba tripled up the middle to lead Desiree Jimmy and Kassie Kochan across the plate. Palmares followed with a double down the left field line to score Leyba.

The Pioneers final run came as Leyba doubled to left center to score Kochan in the seventh inning.

The Warriors would score on an extra innings run in the eight inning to seal the opening game victory.

Jennifer Palmares, Courtney Leyba, Kassie Kochan and Maddie Ramirez all compiled multi-hit outings.

Olivia McWhorter claimed the only Pioneer strikeout of the opening game as she tossed five innings.

In the series finale, both squads continued with their offensive momentum as each team drove in three runs apiece in the opening inning of action.

Ramirez double up the middle to score Palmares to kick off the scoring for East Bay. Rachel Tadlock singled to left field scoring Ramirez. Emilie Portesi singled to centerfield to scored Tadlock.

The Pioneers would add two more runs in the second inning and a final run in the third to come away with the victory. Glover doubled to left field to bring home Ramirez and Palmares while Portesi grounded out with a RBI as Sarah Fukushima scored the final run of the ballgame.
Jennifer Palmares, Maddie Ramirez, Baliee Glover, Rachel Tadlock and Kassie Kochan all turned in multi-hit contests.

Bailee Glover led the pitching rotation with 6.2 innings tossed and five strikeouts.

The Pioneer will head to Chico, for another weekend road series against Chico State beginning on Friday, February 23 at Wildcat Softball Field.
