Pioneer Women's Soccer Collect 1-0 Victory Over Toros

Box Score CARSON, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team picked up a, 1-0 road victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon, October 6 at Toro Stadium.
 
It was the Pioneers first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win of the 2018 season as they improve to 1-3-2 in conference play with a 6-4-2 overall on the year.
 
Junior Jamie McPherson (San Leandro, Calif.) scored the lone goal on the afternoon on a penalty goal kick into the lower left corner of the net to give the Pioneers in 1-0 lead in the first half. For McPherson it was her third goal of the season. It was her first goal in conference action this season.
 
The Toros finished the contest with more shot taken than the Pioneers by a count of 16-13, with six shots on goal form Dominguez Hills and five shots on goal from East Bay.
 
Senior Savannah Schultz (Folsom, Calif.) paced the Pioneers with four shots with one shot coming on goal. Sophomore Abby Buitrgo (San Jose, Calif.) followed with three shots. Jamie McPherson, Lauren Mcougal (Elk Grove, Calif.), Chace Miguel (Hollister, Calif.), Michelle Silva (Hanford, Calif.), Miranda Gonzalez (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Liz Hernandez (Whittier, Calif.) all attempted one shot each for CSUEB. Mcpherson, McDougal, Schultz, Silva and Gonzalez all had one shot on goal attempt.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Briana Vasquez-Ortiz (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded her second consecutive shutout of the road trip as she finshed with six saves on the afternoon. Vasquez-Ortiz now has six shutouts on the season.
 
Cal State Easy Bay will continue conference play with two rival matches next week against Cal State Monterey Bay and SF State.
