HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's soccer program will play their last two home games of the 2018 season with their "Dig For A Cure" Pink Game against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday evening, October 19 before concluding their weekend home stand with their Senior Day match against Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday afternoon, October 21.
 
On Sunday afternoon against Cal Poly Pomona, the Pioneers will honor seniors: Omar Coronel, Luis Salazar, Carter Magee, Ben Reiter, Jonathan Ayala, Jonathan Cuevas, Keith Moreno, Brett Fuchs, Jared Johnson and Argenis Torres prior to the start of the game.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team kicked off the Battle of the Bays with a, 5-0 defeat at the hands of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday afternoon, October 10 at the Otters Sports Complex.
  
Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronal logged all 90 minutes in box and logged seven saves, one shy of his career high set earlier this season against Cal State San Marcos.
 
The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest to the visiting San Francisco State Gators on Sunday afternoon, October 14 at Pioneer Stadium.
 
The action was back and forth through the first 30 minutes of as both teams battled for momentum of the game. The Gators would break the 0-0 tie with a game-winning goal in the 31st minute of action by Aydan Bowers.
 
Cal State East Bay held the shot overall output over SF State, 14-8 with both the Pioneers and Gators attempting five shots on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) saw 45 minutes of action in goal and recorded one save. Freshman Juan Diego Escalante (Castro Valley, Calif.) logged 45 minutes in the box and tallied a season best three saves.
 
PIONEER POINTS
Jonathan Ayala (Concord, Calif.) leads the Pioneers with seven goals scored and 15 points on the season. Ayala is tied for third in the conference in goals scored and tied for fourth fourth in total points. He is also tops on the team with 34 total shots which is sixth in the CCAA. Ayala also has one game-winning goal on the season.
 
Freshman Michael Francisco (Hayward, Calif.) is pacing East Bay with four assists which is tied for fifth in the CCAA. Francisco is second on CSUEB with two goals and eight points.
 
Senior captain Carter Magee (Belfast, Northern Ireland) has tallied two goals on six shots on the season. Jonathan Cuevas (Reno, Nev.) has one goal and one assist on the season.
 
Goalkeeper Omar Coronel (Santa Rosa, Calif.) leads the Pioneers in the box with 53 saves through 13 games played including two shutouts. His 53 saves are good for third in the conference as he also recorded a career best eight saves against Cal State San Marcos.
 
SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes come into the contest against the Pioneers ranked eight in the West Regional rankings with a 9-4 overall mark on the season with a 6-2 record in CCAA play after losing to UC San Diego before defeating Cal State San Marcos. Danny Ortiz leads the Coyotes with seven goals and 12 assists on the season. Jacob Huber lead CSUSB in goal with 37 saves through 13 games with five shutouts.
 
SCOUTING CAL POLY POMONA
The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos enter the matchup against East Bay with a sixth place ranking in the West Regional Poll with a a 9-4 record on the season with a 7-1 mark in conference action after victories over UC San Diego and Cal State San Marcos. Jamie Villalobos paces Cal Poly Pomona with seven goals on the season while Cyro Oliveira is tops on the Bronco squad with eight assists.
