SAN RAFAEL, CALIF. – The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team dropped the first game of their three game road trip Tuesday afternoon, September 5 at Kennely Field.
It was just the second loss for the Pioneers as they fall to 1-2-0 on the season. East Bay was shutout in back-to-back games for the first time since October 23, 2016.
The game was tightly contested as both teams were nearly even in shot attempts and saves. The Penguins outshot the Pioneers 11-10 including six shots on goal to three from CSUEB. But East Bay recorded four saves to just three from Dominican.
Nea'lani O'Neal paced the Pioneers with three total shots with two shot on goal attempts.
Miranda Gonzalez finished with two shots while
Allison Smith,
Aulani Fernandez, Savannah Schulz,
Megan Massone and Eilana Mendoza each chipped in one shot apiece.
Ina Gonzalez logged all 90 minutes in the goalie position for Cal State East Bay and racked up a career beat three saves.
Both of the Penguin goals came late in the game as they scored their first in the 81st minute of play and again in the 84th minutes of game action.
The Pioneers will continue their road trip with a match against Fresno Pacific on Thursday afternoon September 7 at 5:00 p.m. at Ramirez Field.
