WEEK IN REVIEW
The Pioneers are currently sitting 3-4 on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference play. East Bay opened CCAA action by splitting matches against Humboldt State and Sonoma State.
Â
East Bay knocked off the previously undefeated Lumberjacks to claim their first conference win of the season. The freshman duo of
Abby Buitrago and
Lauren McDougal teamed up for two goals in Cal State East Bay women's soccer 2-1 victory.
Â
Buitrago put the Pioneers in the scoring column first when she received a pass though the top of the box from McDougal and weaved around a defender before putting the shot in the back of the right side of the goal. It was Buitrago's first goal of her East Bay career but it would not be her last.
Â
The McDogual to Buitrago connection would strike again for the game-winning goal in the 71st minute of action. McDougal's pass ricocheted of a Humboldt State defender right in front of Buitrago as she placed the shot just over the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper.
Â
For Buitrago, those were her first and second goals of the 2017 season. As for McDougal, those were her team-leading second and third assist of the year.
Â
In the match against Sonoma State, the Pioneers suffered their ninth consecutive loss to the Seawolves dating back to 2011.
After the Seawolves scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 9th minute of play, the Pioneers defense neutralized the Sonoma State attack throughout the rest of the game.
Â
Sonoma State outshot East Bay 17-10 and 5-3 on shots at the frame for the game.
Â

Buitrago scored the first goal of the game against the Jacks in the 29th minute, beating a defender in the box off an assist from
Lauren McDougal. Then with the game tied 1-1 in the 72nd minute, Buitrago scored again off a rebound to clinch a dramatic win for East Bay.
