HAYWARD, Calif. -- After a brief pregame rainstorm, the clouds parted at Pioneer Pool on Saturday, and the Cal State East Bay water polo team defeated visiting Cal State Monterey Bay by a final score of 11-9 on Senior Day.
The game was preceded by the annual Senior Day ceremony to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the nine senior student-athletes on the 2017 squad.
The game was tight in the first half, but the Pioneers (11-12) scored four goals in the third period to open up a 10-5 lead. The Otters (6-10) made a late rally, but it wasn't enough as East Bay hung on to sweep the season series, two games to zero, over CSUMB.
Freshman
Auriel Bill led the way with four goals and two assists, marking her fifth game of the season with at least four scores. Senior
Brandi Carroll notched a goal and two assists in the final home game of the regular season.
Fellow senior
Nikki Vaughan turned in a tremendous effort in the cage, making seven saves in earning her 24th career victory.
