Seawolves Outlast Pioneer Women 2-0 in CCAA Home Opener

HAYWARD, Calif - The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team came out on the losing end of a 2-0 decision in its 2016 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) home opener against Sonoma State on Friday evening. The Seawolves pulled away with two goals in the second half.

The Pioneers (1-5-1, 0-3 CCAA) failed to put any of their shots on goal despite playing from behind for most of the second half.

Sonoma (5-1-1, 3-0 CCAA) broke the scoreless game in the 65th minute with a goal by Sarah Van Wagoner with an assist from Katie Mohr. The visiting team doubled its advantage in the 75th minute when Mohr put in a shot over the goalie's head.

Senior Andrea Hernandez and freshman Jessey Santos both attempted one shot apiece to lead the Pioneers in that category.

Senior goalkeeper Jasmine Corbett finished with three saves for the Pioneers.

Next up, the Pioneer women continue their home stand when they host conference rivals Humboldt State on Sunday, September 25 at 11:30 a.m.
