HAYWARD, Calif. -- On Senior Day at Pioneer Pool, the Cal State East Bay water polo team got out to an early 5-1 advantage over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay and went on to win 12-7. The Pioneers finish the regular season 14-10 overall and 1-2 in WWPA action. The Otters drop to 5-23 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Tori Dettloff were all playing their final home game at Pioneer Pool and had their careers honored before the game.
Once the pregame festivities were complete, the Pioneers got to work on dismantling the Otters. The scored just 29 seconds into the match when Cross scored the first of her five goals Friday and give her team a 1-0 lead.
After Monterey Bay tied it in the first, Cross would add on two more goals and Rushforth and Hatzer would net goals to build a four-goal advantage after one. Call put one in the goal at 3:49 of the second to make it 6-1 before the Otters would tighten the match up with three unanswered goals.
Rushforth would regain the momentum for East Bay when she scored a second quarter goal to make it 7-4 heading to the half.
The Pioneers built a commanding lead in the third on goals number four and five for Cross and Dettloff's first to make it 10-4.
The Pioneers got another goal from Hatzer to start the final quarter, but the Otters battled back to score the next three to reduce the Pioneer lead to four. But with 34 seconds remaining on the clock when the Otters got the lead down four it was too little, too late.
Cheyenne Brady capped-off Senior Day when she netted her first career goal as a Pioneer with five seconds left and East Bay got out of the pool with a 12-7 victory.

Cross's five goals came on nine shots up to bring her season goal total to 46. Cross added two steals and assist in the win. Rushforth added goals 22 and 23 on the season. She also had two steals and two assists.
Hatzer passed 40 goals with her 40th and 41st Friday. Hatzer also got a steal and two assists. Dettloff led the Pioneers in steals with three to go along with her 30th goal of the season
Nikki Vaughn was solid in net in collecting her 13th win of the season. She allowed four goals in three quarters and totaled seven saves.
The win over the Otters concludes the regular season for the Pioneers and most likely clinches the No. 3 seed at the WWPA Championships at Chabot College in Hayward. The Pioneers will play their first-round match on Friday, April 29 to open the postseason.Â
