HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay water polo team wraps up the 2016 regular season this Friday when they host conference rival Cal State Monterey Bay for a 12 p.m. game at Pioneer Pool. 

The contest will be preceded by a pregame ceremony to honor the seven Pioneer seniors who will be competing in their final home game. ASI is also sponsoring a free tailgate during the game on the pool lawn. 

The Pioneers enter with an overall record of 13-10 and a mark of 0-2 in Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) competition following a narrow 10-9 loss at home to Sonoma State last Saturday. Taylor Cross paced the squad with four goals, but the seawolves pulled out the narrow win to even the season series. 

The Otters are 5-22 this year and have lost 11 of their last 12 games. That one victory was a 14-13 road win over Sonoma State on Apr. 2.

East Bay is looking to secure the No. 3 seed in next week's WWPA Championship tournament, which CSUEB is hosting Apr. 29 - May 1 at Chabot College. The Pioneers have finished as runners-up each of the past two season. The defending champion and No. 10 ranked team in the nation, UC San Diego, is once again the favorite.

The Pioneers defeated CSUMB 14-8 in Seaside in their only previous matchup this season. East Bay led 7-4 at halftime of that game before pulling away with five goals in the fourth quarter. Senior Sabrina Hatzer led the way with six goals and four assists in the victory.
