Pitching of Beilstein, Clark Leads to Doubleheader Sweep

HAYWARD, Calif.-- Cal State East Bay used the pitching of Tatiana Beilstein in game one and Sierra Clark in game two to hold the Cal State Dominguez Hills bats scoreless Saturday and help their team sweep a doubleheader. The Pioneers won game one 3-0 and game two 2-0. East Bay improves their CCAA record to 6-8 and overall record to 9-11. The Toros leave town with a conference mark of 6-18 and 9-22 overall.

GAME ONE: Cal State East Bay 3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0-

The Pioneers didn't wait around to get on the scoreboard as they scored three times in the first. The first four Pioneer hitters all recorded singles. The third one by Marisa Lerma scored Rose Marston to make it 1-0.

Ali Cerminara received a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Gabby Gonzalez and the Pioneers upped their lead to 2-0. A Meghan Araneta sacrifice fly scored Lerma to cap the scoring in the first and the Pioneers led by three after one.

That is all the runs East Bay would score in the game and more than they would need. The complete game shutout by Beilstein with five hits allowed made it a quick first game. Beilstein pitched 14 innings Friday and Saturday and only allowed an earned run in picking up two wins and running her record to 3-5 with a 2.27 ERA.

GAME TWO: Cal State East Bay 2, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0-

The pitching was the story in game two again, as Clark stifled the Toro bats for a complete game shutout on just one hit. Clark improved her record to 4-4 on the season. The Pioneers got a run early to support the dominant pitching of Clark.

Gonzalez led off the second inning with a single and stole second with one out. Araneta grounded out for the second out and it was left to Allison Noble to get the run home and she did. Noble laced a double to right center to plate Gonzalez and make it 1-0 Pioneers.

The score remained 1-0, but the Pioneers knew an extra run for Clark to work with would be extremely helpful.

In the fifth inning, Cerminara delivered a two-out RBI double and the Pioneers had an extra run and would roll to victory in game two and clinch a series win over Dominguez Hills by taking three out of four.

The Pioneers will have a day to rest before welcoming San Francisco State for four-game series beginning Monday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 P.M. Game two will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
