Score Sheet: CSUEB 9, Villanova 5
Score Sheet: CSUEB 10, Chapman 3

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.
-- The Cal State East Bay water polo team completed a perfect weekend at Cal Lutheran's Tina Finali Invitational with two more victories on Sunday to close out the tournament.

The Pioneers defeated Villanova by a score of 9-5 in the morning, then cruised to a 10-3 victory over Chapman in the afternoon. East Bay has now won six straight games, improving their overall record to 9-6.

CSUEB had to erase an early deficit against the Wildcats. After Sabrina Hatzer opened the scoring for East Bay at 3:55 in the first, Villanova scored two goals before the end of the quarter to grab the lead. That score held throughout most of the second period, and then Brandi Carroll found the back of the cage with 1:30 left to send the teams to halftime tied 2-2.

The Pioneers took control of the game coming out of the break. Taylor Cross scored on the first possession of the second half to give CSUEB a lead. After Villanove tied it again, the Pioneers scored three times in the final three minutes of the third quarter, as Hatzer, Tori Dettloff, and Jenn Lightbody got in the score sheet.

East Bay kept the pressure on in the fourth, drawing a penalty at 4:56 and converting the team's fourth straight unanswered goals. The next time down the pool, Nicole Williams tallied a goal to make it 8-3 Pioneers with less than five minutes remaining, essentially putting the game out of reach.

Cross paced the squad with four steals in the win, while Hatzer, Lightbody, and Simonne Call notched two assists apiece.

Nikki Vaughan racked up 11 saves and a pair of steals to pick up the victory in the cage.

The Pioneers had about four hours to rest before they were back in the pool against Chapman. The team showed no signs of rust, however, jumping out to a quick advantage in the first quarter.

Cross and Hatzer scored on the first two possessions of the game, and then Dettloff notched a goal in the 6-on-5 situation, putting the Pioneers up 3-0 in the first two minutes of play.

Dettloff and Cross both found the back of the cage again in the second. Chapman managed a goal at the end of each quarter, but East Bay nonetheless went to halftime with a comfortable 5-2 lead.

Hatzer posted her second goal of the contest to start the second half, and then Dettloff completed the hat trick to make it 7-2 in favor of the red and black. Rosio Fesembeck, Olivia Mackell, and Nayiri Kechichian all scored fourth-quarter goals as the Pioneers finished strong and pulled away from Chapman.

Hatzer totaled five assists in the game, giving her four goals and seven assists in Sunday's doubleheader. The Pioneers finished with 17 steals in the win, with Hatzer, Cross, and Kechichian leading the way with three apiece.
