Lerma's Four RBI Leads Pioneers to Game One Win over CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.-- Marisa Lerma had a home run and four RBI's and Sierra Clark pitched her second straight complete game shutout in an 8-0 win Saturday in game one. The second game of the doubleheader was a wild affair that saw the Pioneers lose 12-7. CSUEB is now 2-2 in the CCAA and 3-3 overall. CSUSB is 2-2 in the conference and 7-6 overall.

GAME ONE: Cal State East Bay 8, Cal State San Bernardino 0:

The Pioneers put up a crooked number in the first inning when Lerma hit a two-run homer (1) and Ashley Allen added an RBI single to take a quick 3-0 lead. Lerma got her third and fourth RBI on a double to make it 5-0 after two.

The Pioneers kept on scoring runs in the third as they got two on two consecutive errors by the Coyotes. Ali Cerminara brought the mercy rule into play when she hit a sacrifice fly to score Courtney Leyba and make it 8-0.

Clark took care of the rest and got the final six outs to end the first game after five innings and get the Pioneers their third victory of the season. Clark totaled five innings and gave up only two hits and walked one batter and earned her third win of the year against no defeats. Clark hasn't allowed an earned run this season after appearing in four games and pitching 19.1 innings.

Lerma went 3 for 3 at the plate to go with the first inning home run and four RBI's in the game. Leyba and Clark both went 2 for 2. Leyba scored two runs.

GAME TWO- Cal State San Bernardino 12, Cal State East Bay 7:

The second game got off to a bad start for the Pioneers as they fell behind 4-0 after three innings, but the Pioneers scored six in the fourth to give themselves hope for a doubleheader sweep. Ashley Allen singled in Gabby Gonzalez to get the first run. Rose Marston would have the big hit of the rally with a three-run double to tie the game at four.

Lerma would continue her big day with the go-ahead hit to score Marston and make it 5-4. The Pioneers added the sixth run when Cerminara would single to score Leyba.

The Coyotes would answer with three runs in their half of the fourth and retake lead 7-6. They would go on to score five more runs before Gonzalez scored in the seventh on a walk to Belle Placencia. The Coyotes would get the last out in the seventh and win 12-7.

Marston went 3 for 5 with three RBI's in the second game. Marston is batting .545 with three home runs and nine RBI's after six games. Gonzalez went 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Allen and Mia Ramirez each had two hits for the Pioneers. Tatiana Beilstein took the loss (0-2) for CSUEB.

Cal State East Bay returns to non-conference action Thursday for a doubleheader at Notre Dame De Namur. First pitch is slated for 1:00 P.M.
