HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay's men's soccer team will head on a three game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip beginning this Friday October 7 at Cal State San Bernardino. The Pioneers will then travel to Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, October 9 and will finish their CCAA road swing with a visit to Turlock to faceoff against Stanislaus State on October 12. Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona are both entering the game in the top-5 in the conference.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
CSUEB will look to continue its win streak after a 2-0 victory over non-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz on September 30. It was the second consecutive home win for the Pioneers.
 
After a scoreless first half, senior Juan Alfaro and sophomore Jared Johnson both scored their first goals of the season. Johnson's goal came in the 68th minute of play while Alfaro put in his score in the 74th minute of game action.
 
The Pioneers controlled the game from the opening kick outshooting the Banana Slugs 17-3. East Bay also led the way with seven shots on goal.
 
Victor Calderon led the Pioneers with five shots. Michael Pavia, Evan Sanchez and Zach Leon all finished with two shots apiece.
 
Freshman goal keeper notched one save while picking up his first collegiate win and shutout. 
 
PIONEER POINTS
East Bay is third among the 13 CCAA teams with 16 scored in ten games this season, however their 17 goals allowed in the most in the conference.
 
Junior Michael Pavia is the team's top scorer throughout the season with three goals and six points. He leads the Pioneers with 18 shots, including eight shots on goal. Pavia is ninth in the conference with two game winning goals.
 
Victor Calderon, Preston Hale, Luis Lopez and Kalvin Conley all have put in two goals apiece for CSUEB. Calderon and Hale are tied for the team lead with two assists.
 
SCOUTNG CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO
The Coyotes play low-scoring, defensive games, having scored only eight goals through nine games while only allowing seven. They enter the matchup having lost two straight CCAA games to Cal Poly Pomona (0-1) and Chico State (0-2). Senior Diego Casillas ranks ninth in the conference in shots (19) and shots per game (2.11).
 
SCOUTING CAL POLY POMONA
The Broncos are a stout defensive squad, as they have only allowed six goals through 12 games this season. They have scored 11 goals on the year. Cal Poly Pomona come will enter the game after going 1-1 in conference play last week, after a 1-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino and a 0-1 defeat to Chico State. Junior Sergio Monso is first in CCAA with five game winning goals. He is also second in the conference in goals (8) and points (17).
 
SCOUTING STANISLAUS STATE
The Warriors, although winless in CCAA play are an aggressive team offensively. They are also tied for second in the conference with 16 goals allowed through nine game. Stanislaus State recorded its first win of the season with a 3-0 over non-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz. Sean Bender and Sean Baird lead the Warriors with two goals apiece. Bender is also tied for team lead with two assists.
