HAYWARD, Calif. – On Easter Sunday morning the Cal State East Bay women's water polo team will host fellow Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) foe UC San Diego. It will be the first time the Pioneers will play the Tritons in Pioneer Pool since the 2010 campaign.

Cal State East Bay has never beaten UC San Diego (0-9) with the past eight meetings coming over the previous five seasons. The Pioneers are looking to exact revenge on a Tritons squad which last defeated them in the WWPA Championship game to conclude the 2014 season.

UC San Diego will face the other three WWPA schools located in California this weekend starting with Cal State Monterey and Sonoma State on Saturday. The Tritons will face the Otters and Seawolves in Seaside at the Otter Tank.

UCSD has had a rollercoaster season, ranked as high as No. 11 in the country before recently falling out of the national rankings altogether. The Tritons have lost to a Division III squad, and nearly beat the No. 5 ranked Division I team in UC Irvine dropping an 8-7 decision this past Thursday.

The Tritons offensive triple threat includes Laurel Kistler (50 goals, 37 assists), Julia Kirkland (48 G, 32 A), and Jolene Guiliana (42 G, 28 A). Guiliana was named the WWPA Tournament Most Valuable Player last season.

Goalkeeper Courtney Miller was an All-Tournament First Team selection and surpassed 300 saves in her junior season. It is her third straight year with 300-plus saves after recording 317 as a freshman and 302 as a sophomore.

Cal State East Bay will counter with several players including WWPA Player of the Week Tori Dettloff. She has scored at least once in six straight games including with 11 of her 19 this season coming during that stretch.

For only the third time this season leading scorer Taylor Cross was held without a goal or assist in a game during the Pioneers lost to CSUMB. She leads the squad with 38 goals and 41 drawn exclusions, and ranks second with 19 assists.

Cross and Olivia Mackell have combined to earn 79 of the team's 154 drawn exclusions (.513) this season. The East Bay offense was converted 6-on-5's at nearly a 60 percent clip over a five game stretch before netting only one goal in eight chances in its loss to the Otters.

CSUEB goalkeeper Marrina Nation has 175 saves to her name this season including a season-high 13 in a win over Sonoma State this past Friday. She is holding the opposition to just 6.73 goals per game over her past six appearances guarding the Pioneer cage.
