Tori Dettloff scored both of the game-winning goals during Monday's doubleheader at the Allred Aquatics Center at Chapman University. The Pioneers escaped with a 6-5 morning win against the host Panthers and a 12-11 afternoon triumph over Concordia Irvine to finish unbeaten during its trek to southern California.
Cal State East Bay 6, Chapman 5 – FCal State East Bay built a 5-2 lead through three quarters and held the Chapman offense scoreless for over 19 minutes of game action. The Panther offense found late life as Deanna Farley, Alison Quincy, and Lindsey Campbell all scored in the fourth to tie the game 5-5 with 2:07 remaining.
The host Panthers defense kept them in the game by shutting out the Pioneers for more than 20 minutes. The lone second half East Bay goal came at arguably the most crucial point in the game.
Chapman called timeout to set up the potential go-ahead score with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Cal State East Bay forced a shot clock violation and an alert Dettloff took off to set up a counterattack with an expiring shot clock.
Taylor Cross quickly fed the lead pass to Dettloff who skipped her shot under Chapman goalkeeper Kirsten Spicer for the eventual game-winner. East Bay goalkeeper
Marrina Nation sealed the win with a steal on the penultimate Panthers possession and recorded her seventh save on a sweep shot from close range in the final seconds.
Ka'iliponi McGee scored twice to lead the Cal State East Bay offense.

Cal State East Bay 12, Concordia Irvine 11 – FCal State East Bay trailed Concordia Irvine 10-8 early in the fourth quarter after surrendering five third quarter goals and a team-high fourth to Golden Eagles' Tayla Walsh. The Pioneers withstood being on the wrong end of a 7-2 scoring run and battled back by netting four of the final five goals with Cross and Dettloff leading the charge.
Rushforth found Cross on back-to-back 6-on-5 chances to tie the game 10-10 with 5:27 to go for her team leading 10th and 11th assists during the SoCal swing. Nation then found Call on a counterattack with 3:37 to once again pull even at 11-11.
CUI goalkeeper Madelynn Krust came up big stopping a potential go-ahead 5-meter penalty shot with less than three minutes remaining. However Dettloff would score the final goal of the match with 95 seconds remaining as her shot from six meters out was redirected off a Golden Eagles player and over Krust's head.
Concordia Irvine did put a major scare into East Bay with one final shot. Out of a timeout with one second left, a half tank heave was redirected towards the inner half of the left post. The ball caromed sideways and out in front of the goal line before being cleared from danger to end the game.
Cal State East Bay finished 5-for-8 on its power play chances with Cross providing the conversion three times. Both teams found success in the high-scoring affair with Concordia Irvine connecting on 3-of-5 player advantage chances and scoring on both of its penalty shots.
Cross and Dettloff finished with four goals apiece and combined to score or assists on 11 of the team's 12 goals. Call finished with two goals, and Nation led the squad with three assists and nine saves.
Cal State East Bay (10-12) will host Sonoma State on Friday, March 27, at 2 p.m.
