HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's water polo will host Harvard on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. It will be the Pioneers Breast Cancer Awareness game with the CSUEB team members wearing pink "EB" logo caps during warmups.
It has been over a month since Cal State East Bay has hosted a match at Pioneer Pool. The Pioneers earned a decisive 13-6 victory over Division III Cal Lutheran back on Feb. 14.
Casey Rushforth has scored at least once in each of the past four games including a three goals and three assists performance in a win over Chapman on March 1.
Taylor Cross leads the team with 22 goals and 29 drawn exclusions. Cross and
Olivia Mackell have combined to earn half of the team's kickouts this season (57-of-114).
The Pioneer roster lists four different players with at least 10 goals scored this season including
Sabrina Hatzer (17) and
Alyssa Hess (15). They are the only two players who have taken 20 or more shots this season with shot percentages above 30 percent.
Harvard (13-6) started its week long West coast trip in Rohnert Park with a 14-4 victory over Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) member Sonoma State. The Crimson handled Fresno Pacific 13-5 and battled No. 11 UC Davis all the way to sudden death overtime.
Harvard will have faced eight different California teams over seven days including No. 2 Stanford, No. 15 Pacific, and No. 19 Santa Clara. The Crimson will take on three of the four California WWPA squads when they take on Cal State Monterey Bay on March 21.
The Crimson high octane offense has put up 10 or more goals in 14-of-19 contests, and nine of their last 10 entering Tuesday's game against UOP. Charlotte Hendrix, Melissa Balding, and Yoshi Andersen have each scored a team-leading 38 goals through 19 games.
Cal State East Bay earned a 12-8 victory the last time these squads met back on March 18, 2011.
