Box Score: CSUEB 8, SSU 6 - FLA JOLLA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay concluded its Triton Invitational schedule with an 8-6 victory over fellow Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) member Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers have now won seven straight meetings with the Seawolves dating back to the 2013 season.

Marrina Nation did not allow an even strength score for the opening 12 minutes of the game and stopped nine shots in all.
Casey Rushforth's early second quarter goal made it 1-1 against the nation's No. 9 ranked team. She assisted on the other Pioneer score as
Taylor Cross converted a 6-on-5 opportunity out of a timeout.
Cross drew five of East Bay's six earned exclusions with five coming in the second half. The Pioneers went 1-for-5 in player advantage chances and missed on a fourth quarter 5-meter penalty shot.
Cal St. East Bay 8, Sonoma State 6 – FThe two squads combined for 24 exclusions with Sonoma State earning a 13-11 edge. The Seawolves struck first earning an ejection followed by a Nicole Browning score on their first 6-on-5 chance to open the scoring 65 seconds into the game.
Browning finished with a game-high three goals, but her squad was held scoreless over the remainder of the first half. The Pioneers went on to score four unanswered goals over a 16-plus minute stretch with goals from
Alyssa Hess, Cross,
Simonne Call, and
Sabrina Hatzer.
Call beat the halftime buzzer to give East Bay a 3-1 lead and the momentum into the break. Hatzer scored her first of a team-high two goals on the team's opening possession out of intermission.
SSU would not go away quietly shrinking the CSUEB lead down to 6-5 with 4:10 left in regulation. The Seawolves converted three of its next four man-up chances starting in the final minute of the third quarter.

Bre Ritter pushed the Pioneer lead back to two with 2:52 to go. Ritter was one of seven different Pioneers to contribute to the scoring column including
Ka'iliponi McGee and Rushforth.
Olivia Mackell drew six of the 11 major fouls issued to Sonoma State in the game. The Pioneers scored on 3-of-11 chances while the Seawolves finished 5-for-13 in regulation.
Nation made 11 stops in the victory and allowed only one full strength goal in the contest. She finishes the weekend with 632 career saves, within 30 of second best on the East Bay all-time list currently held by assistant coach
Jayme Pekarske.
Cal State East Bay (2-6) will host NCAA Division III Cal Lutheran (0-0) on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Regals will open their season at Cal State Monterey Bay the day prior.
