Pioneers End Season With First Draw of Season

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay honored women's soccer seniors Mindy Castro, Joanna Giron, Sara Silva, Laura McIntosh, and Corryn Barney for the final game of their Pioneer careers before notching their first tie of the year. The Pioneers played to a 0-0 draw with Cal State L.A. on Saturday at Pioneer Stadium, earning a point in the finale of the 2015 season.

"I'm really proud of the effort the team gave today. I thought we played very well and was very happy with the seniors and the contributions the team made for them," said Head Coach Amy Gerace.

The Pioneers finish the CCAA portion of their schedule 3-8-1 and 5-12-1 overall. The Golden Eagles move on to the CCAA Tournament next week with a 7-3-2 conference mark and 7-6-4 overall record.

After the Golden Eagles outshot the Pioneers 4-1 in the first half, the Pioneers upped the pressure on the Golden Eagles the last three periods by getting 11 shots to Cal State LA's six. East Bay controlled possession down the stretch, creating several chances, but they couldn't quite cash-in for a game winning goal. The Pioneers nonetheless walked off the field the last time grabbing a point against the postseason-bound Golden Eagles.

"With some of our recent results, it's great to finish the year at home with a quality game the team can be proud of," said Gerace.

Barney and Andrea Hernandez each had four shots to pace the Pioneers. Suzanne Bateson and Megan Ravenscroft had two each. Katelyn Oshima played all 110:00 minutes in goal and totaled four saves.
