VALLEJO, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team put on a dominant display in Thursday night's 4-0 road win over Cal Maritime Academy at Bodnar Field. Newcomer
Michael Tieku scored the game-winner,
Javier Martin netted two goals, and
Rica Guerra added another in the team's highest scoring match in nearly two years.
"Tonight we were able to generate more in the attacking half and I'm happy about tonight's outcome," said East Bay Head Coach
Andy Cumbo. "We had some players step up tonight who had not until now.
Michael Paiva played very well and was dynamic in the midfield."
In total Cal State East Bay out shot Cal Maritime (0-1-0) 42-1 overall and placed 17 shots on target. Paiva led the effort with seven shots and four finding the target. Tieku and
Christian Gonzalez fired off six apiece in the win. Keelhauler Patrick Wehan took the lone CMA shot in the 21st minute.
Brian Edmiston made 13 saves for the Keelhaulers in the team's 2014 season and home opener. All three East Bay goalkeepers in
Adrian Topete,
Steven Morgan, and
Kramer Gudgeon combined for the shutout.
Cal State East Bay (2-2-1) will host Chaminade (1-2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
