Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – Bookend goals from
Ariana Gordon and
Corryn Barney extended the program's unbeaten streak over Cal State Dominguez Hills to four matches with a 2-0 win on Friday night inside Pioneer Stadium.
Cal State East Bay (6-8-2, 3-6-0 CCAA) would take the lead just over 10 minutes into the match as Gordon redirected a
Megan Ravenscroft cross from the right side into the near upper corner. Barney set up the play from midfield and would play a big role in Friday's outcome.
"The first goal was set up really well with combination play by all three forwards. It's something we've been trying to accomplish all season," said Barney of the eventual game-winning goal. "The second goal was very exciting for me. Megan played a perfect through ball and I'm happy to have finished with a shot on frame."
Late in the game Ravenscroft found Barney with her track speed in stride outside the 18-yard box. Barney streaked in behind the defense and powered a shot past the Toros defense to seal the game in the 87th minute.
Ravenscroft, the team's leading goal scorer with seven on the season, set up both goals in the win. She is now one back of the team lead with four assists, and currently ranks fourth among all California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) players with 18 total points.
"Megan had a spectacular game in getting the assist on both goals. Her work rate was very high and she was effective in the attack as well as helping us defend," commended East Bay Head Coach
Amy Gerace. "Ariana had a great goal and showed a lot of desire to win. Corryn did a great job of splitting the defenders and securing the final goal to close out the game."
The Pioneer defense did not allow a first half shot attempt from Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-13-1, 2-7-0 CCAA). The Toros managed seven over the final 45 minutes and forced one save from East Bay goalkeeper
Selena Braun.
Cal State East Bay will host No. 7 nationally ranked Cal State L.A. (13-1-2, 8-0-1 CCAA) whom already clinched at least a share of the regular season CCAA title following Friday's outcomes.
