Premier Soccer Field - San BernardinoLive Stats HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's soccer will look to bounce back following a pair of road losses in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play the previous weekend. The Pioneers will take on two teams currently sitting in position to earn a CCAA Tournament berth with Chico State (Oct. 17) and Cal State San Bernardino (Oct. 19).
Only two games separate third place from 10th position in the CCAA standings with five league matches remaining. Cal State East Bay (5-6-2, 2-4-0 CCAA) dropped from fifth to ninth, but can return to contention with a pair of scoring results this weekend.
Cal State East Bay at Chico State (Match Preview)Chico State (6-4-2, 3-2-1 CCAA) enters the weekend in fourth and most recently coming off a 1-0 loss to Sonoma State (12-1-0, 5-1-0 CCAA). Both of the Wildcats' league losses have come against the top two squads in the current CCAA standings in Cal State L.A. (11-1-1, 6-0-0 CCAA) and the Seawolves.
Brianna Furner has played ever second defending the Chico State goal this season. She has made 44 saves and recorded four shutouts while holding opponents to 0.83 goals per game in 12 matches.
Cal State East Bay's top two goal scorers this season in
Megan Ravenscroft and
Ariana Gordon have been held scoreless over the past four matches. The Pioneers are 4-1-1 this season when either or both score in a match, as opposed to 1-5-1 when held scoreless.
Cal State East Bay hopes to earn its first CCAA win over Chico State in program history (0-5-2). The Wildcats have won five straight meetings and outscored the Pioneers 12-3 during that stretch.
Cal State East Bay at Cal State San Bernardino (Match Preview)Cal State San Bernardino (10-3-0, 3-3-0 CCAA) opened the season with nine straight wins and was ranked as high as No. 8 in the national polls. The Coyotes were held scoreless during a 3-match slide which dropped them out of the rankings altogether. However CSUSB snapped its scoreless and losing streak with a 1-0 win at Humboldt State on Sunday.
The Coyotes offense is led by Kiana Quarles' five goals this season. Teammates Jasmine Williams and Susan Ibarra have scored three goals each this season, and the trio has combined to provide more than 60 percent of the team's scoring in 2014. Cal State San Bernardino is 7-0-0 in games where any of the aforementioned players nets a goal, and 3-3-0 when held without a score.
Cal State East Bay will look to snap a 4-match losing streak to the Coyotes. It will be a tough task against a squad that is 6-1-0 this season on its home turf at Premier Soccer Field.
