HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay continues California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action this weekend when it hosts Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and San Francisco State on Sunday at Pioneer Stadium.

Cal State East Bay is in search of its first points in league this season. The Pioneers have been close several times with five of their six defeats this year coming by a single goal.

"Nothing has come easy so far this season," said fifth year Head Coach Andy Cumbo. "These guys are resilient, competitive, and determined to win."

In their most recent meetings with their upcoming weekend opponents the Pioneers were victors dating back to the 2012 season. East Bay is looking to relive what it was able to accomplish last year and start a new streak of its own.

"We are looking forward to these division games this weekend. We are planning to keep points away from our opposition and work our way up the (conference standings)," stated Cumbo.

CSU East Bay vs. CSU Monterey Bay Match Preview
Cal State Monterey Bay (4-1-1, 2-1-1 CCAA) is coming off a weekend filled with mixed emotions entering its match against Cal State East Bay (0-6-0, 0-4-0 CCAA). Following this past weekend's results Monterey Bay fell out of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top-25 poll and dropped from No. 4 to No. 6 in the West regional rankings.

The Otters suffered their first loss of the season this past Friday against Cal State Dominguez Hills, snapping a four-match win streak to open the 2013 campaign. CSUMB rebounded nicely earning a double overtime draw against then-nationally ranked No. 7 Cal State Los Angeles just two days later.

Alberto Anguiano leads the Otters with four assists and is tied for the team lead with eight points. Monterey Bay is undefeated (4-0-0) in games which he contributes either a goal or an assist. CSUMB is winless (0-1-1) when he is held without a point.

Friday will be the first CCAA road contest for the Otters whom are coming off a five-match homestand in which they finished 3-1-1. The Pioneers will be hosting the second of their own five-match homestand.

Cal State East Bay won its most recent matchup with Cal State Monterey Bay by a 2-1 margin back on Oct. 21, 2012. In that contest Rey Suarez scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the second half.

CSU East Bay vs. San Francisco State Match Preview
San Francisco State (2-3-1, 1-2-1 CCAA) pulled off the conference shocker of the weekend defeating then-nationally ranked No. 7 Cal State Los Angeles, 1-0. It is the only league victory thus far for the Gators who will play their first road CCAA contests of the season this weekend.

Sam Merritt leads the Gators in goals (2), total points (5), shots taken (15), shots on goal (5), and is tied with one assist. He has scored all five of his points over the past three games.

CSUEB won the previous meeting between these two squads back on Sept. 28, 2012. Current Pioneer team members Kellen Crow, Arthur Ethel, and Javier Martin each scored their first goals of that season in a 3-1 victory over SFSU.
