Box Score ARCATA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay fell on the road 2-0 to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponent Humboldt State on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers trailed in the opening minutes and were not able to score despite creating several premium opportunities.
"We played well for the majority of the game. We gave up a sloppy goal in the first five minutes but responded well," said Pioneers Head Coach
Andy Cumbo.
Chuck Pitts scored the game-winner for the Jacks in the fourth minute of play. He collected the rebound off a prior shot to net his second goal of the season.
East Bay (0-5-0, 0-3-0 CCAA) put four shots on target and another by
Scott Dobson hit the post during the opening half of play. The Pioneers put two more on frame but Jacks goalkeeper Javier Torres was up to the challenge making six saves in the solo shutout effort.
"We had a lot of great chances and unfortunately so did they," commented Cumbo. ""They capitalized earlier and we need to do a better job of scoring goals."
Humboldt State (3-1-1, 1-1-1 CCAA) added a second half insurance goal after Braxton Griffin found teammate Zach Hammond. In the 63rd minute Hammond's shot from 18 yards found the far right of the goal for his fifth score of the season.
