Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's soccer dropped its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener 3-0 to Chico State on Friday night. The Wildcats spoiled the Pioneers home debut scoring a pair of goals over the final 20 minutes to seal the game.
Chico State (3-0-0, 1-0-0 CCAA) seniors Scotie Walker and Carly Singer each contributed a goal and assist. Through three games this season the pair has combined for half of the team's shot attempts (22-of-44) and goals (4-of-8).
Cal State East Bay (0-3-0, 0-1-0 CCAA) trailed 1-0 early in the second half and nearly drew even with its best scoring opportunity of the match. In the 62nd minute Corryn Bailey nearly put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with her solo run down the right side. Her shot from a few yards out skimmed over the crossbar and shortly thereafter the Wildcats scored two quick goals.
"Our overall team play tonight was good at times," said Head Coach
Amy Gerace following Friday's contest. "We are still putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Our players are doing a better job understanding their roles."
One crucial role was played by goalkeeper
Donna Williams. She made a career-high 10 saves on Friday and has racked up 18 stops in her two appearances this season.
East Bay will finish off its opening weekend of league play against Cal State San Bernardino (2-2-0, 0-1-0 CCAA) on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m.
