Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – Missed opportunities and a pair of second half goals by the opposition was the difference in a 2-0 loss to Cal State Stanislaus at Pioneer Stadium on Friday night. Cal State East Bay was unable to get in the scoring column despite owning advantages of 14-7 in shots taken and 7-2 in corner kicks.

Neither team placed a shot on target in the first half in what was a physical meeting between the two squads. In total 45 fouls were called between the two sides including an opponent season-high 23 on the visiting Warriors.

A scoreless game through more than an hour of play was eventually ended by Cal State Stanislaus (7-7-1, 6-7-0 CCAA). In the 65th minute Manny Villegas settled the rebound off the left post following the strike from teammate Danny Ochoa. His right-footed volley near the penalty kick area was the game-winner.

Ochoa provided both assists on the evening after serving a corner kick inside the 6-yard box late in regulation. The inward swinging service was redirected at the near post by the head of teammate Kyle Cadigan into the upper corner of the goal in the 82nd minute.

Jesus Magana led all players with a game-high five shots. Chris Lara, Arnol Arceta, and Javier Martin attempted two apiece.

Both goalkeepers Bryce Bookhamer for Cal State East Bay and Clint Long of Cal State Stanislaus made one save in full time. Long earned his second solo shutout of the season and held a CCAA team scoreless for the first time in 2013.

The Pioneers loss coupled with a Sonoma State victory over Humboldt State on Friday mathematically eliminated East Bay from CCAA Tournament contention.

Cal State East Bay (3-11-1, 3-9-1 CCAA) will host Humboldt State (6-8-1, 4-8-1 CCAA) on Sunday, Oct. 27. A Pioneer victory would move them into a tie for fourth place in the CCAA North Division standings with the Jacks.
