East Bay Falls to Cal State Dominguez Hills

Box Score CARSON, Calif. – The Pioneer men's soccer team was shutout by Cal State Dominguez Hills 4-0 on September 23.

The defeat leaves the Pioneers with a 0-3-2 CCAA record and an overall mark of 1-4-2. Cal State Dominguez Hills is 3-3 in the CCAA and 3-4-1 for the season.

East Bay was outshot by a 14-8 margin. Chris Lara, Kellen Crow and Javier Martin all had two shots for the Pioneers. Goalkeepers Bryce Bookhamer and Rene Martinez combined for four saves.

The Toros' Aaron Salazar scored a pair of goals while goalkeeper Trey Mitchell turned away four shots to record the shutout. 

"We had a lot of the ball and were effective getting into dangerous areas in the final third,” Pioneer Coach Andy Cumbo said."Dominguez Hills did very well in front of the goal and capitalized on their chances early on"

The Toros took a 1-0 lead when Sebastian Cortez scored at the eight minute mark. Salazar scored consecutive goals to give the Toros a 3-0 advantage. In the 36th minute, Christian Soto finished the first half scoring with his second goal of the season.

The Pioneers had scoring opportunities in the final 26 minutes of the game. Crow had a shot saved by Mitchell in the 64th minute. Six minutes later, Rey Suarez attempt on goal was turned away by Mitchell. In the 67th minute, Lara had a shot go wide. The final scoring opportunity for the Pioneers came in the 79 minute when Crow had his shot hit the crossbar.

"The guys never stopped trying and had some really positive moments throughout the game,” Cumbo said."This was not an easy road trip but despite the results we are still making progress"

The Pioneers will play at San Francisco State on September 28.
