9/13/2012 11:06:00 AM

The Pioneer women's soccer team will play its first road matches of the 2012 season this weekend. On September 14, the Pioneers will play Cal State Stanislaus at 4:30 p.m. The road trip will conclude on September 16 with an 11:30 a.m. match against Chico State. Cal State East Bay and Cal State Stanislaus split a two-match series last season, with the Pioneers beating the Warriors 2-1 at Pioneer Stadium on September 23. Chico State defeated Cal State East Bay twice during the 2011 campaign.

"We prepare ourselves mentally for each game whether it's home or away," Pioneer coach Amy Gerace said.  "We have players who played on the road last year and in 2010, and have shown the ability to deal with the changes."

The Pioneers are 0-1 in CCAA play and 2-1 for the season. Eugenie Foote has a team-best three goals, including one game-winning goal against Notre Dame de Namur.  Kara Yamamoto has scored two goals and three assists for a team-high seven points. Breahna Berry is third in scoring for the Pioneers with five points on two goals and one assist. The Pioneers have received outstanding defensive play from senior defender Zuly Diaz and freshman Kelsey Lamb. Goalkeeper Jamie Botteon has allowed and average of 1.37 goals with five saves in three matches.

"We've played well in our three matches," Gerace said. "Our team continues to improve and overall, I'm encouraged with the direction we're going in."

Cal State Stanislaus is 3-1 for the season and 1-1 in the CCAA. The Warriors defeated Cal State LA, 4-1, on September 9.  Karenee Demery is the Warriors' leading scorer with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Millie Brown has allowed one goal per match with two shutouts.

Chico State is also 3-1 overall and 1-1 in CCAA play. The Wildcats, ranked 14th nationally, have outshot their opponents by a 61-28 margin. Scotie Walker leads the Wildcats with two goals scored. Keeper Brianna Furner has recorded three shutouts, while allowing just one goal per match.
