Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Pioneer men's soccer team dropped their first match of the young season to Dominican University, 4-0, on September 1.
East Bay is 1-1 while Dominican University stands at 1-0.
The Pioneers had 15 shots, including six on goal.
Scott Dobson,
Florian Reppin,
Chris Lara,
Rey Suarez and
Javier Martin all had two shots.
Pedro Guevara scored two goals while David Mendez and Cory Vanderpool each put the ball in the net for the victorious Penquins.
“I'm very disappointed with the outcome,” Pioneer coach
Andy Cumbo said. “We had chances to score, but were unable to put the ball in the net. Our team needs to be more prepared for conference play next week.”
Guevara gave the Penquins a 1-0 lead with a goal in the ninth minute.
Martin had a shot turned away by Penquin goalkeeper Erik Anderson in the 17th minute.
Dominican increased its lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute on a goal by Vanderpool.
Arthur Ethel had a shot saved by Anderson late in the first period.
In the 53rd minute, Suarez had a shot hit the crossbar.
Guevara added his second goal of the match in the 80th minute to give the Penquins a 3-0 advantage.
Two minutes later, Dobson's shot was saved by Anderson.
The Penquins concluded the scoring in the 85th minute as Mendez converted a shot from the far right corner.
East Bay had one final chance to get on the scoreboard in the 88th minute, but a shot by Lara went wide.
The Pioneers will open CCAA play on September 9 with a home match versus Sonoma State.
