HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneer men's basketball team concluded the 2011-12 season with a 61-47 defeat to CCAA Champion Chico State, 61-47 on February 24.
Cal State East Bay concludes CCAA play with an 8-14 record. The previous two seasons, the Pioneers compiled a 5-39 mark in the CCAA. The Pioneers finished with an overall record of 10-16.
Roshun Wynne scored 15 points to end a two-year playing career for the Pioneers. Wynne had two steals, giving him a conference best 64 in 22 games.
Mark Samuels added 10 points.
Tre Mauldin led the Pioneers on the boards with five rebounds.
Chico State, the top seed in the upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament, ends the CCAA regular season with a 16-6 record. The Wildcats are 22-6 overall.
Jay Flores led three Wildcat players in double figures with 16 points. Amir Carraway and Sean Park contributed to the Chico State victory with 10 points each.
As they have all season, the Pioneers battled back aided by
Vincent Capellino's three free throws to trail the Wildcats, 46-43, with 9:48 left in the game.
The Wildcats responded with a 15-4 run the following 10 minutes to earn the victory.
The Pioneers trailed most of the first half and trailed by as many as 15 points with 12 minutes left.
Chico State maintained a 32-20 advantage with 1:45 remaining.
Jurrell Turner's dunk at the buzzer cut the Wildcats' lead to 32-22 at halftime.
