Two First-Half Goals Hurt East Bay in 2-1 Setback to Chico State

Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneer women's soccer team couldn't overcome a 2-0 first half deficit and lost to Chico State 2-1 on October 5. East Bay is now 2-5-1 in the CCAA and 4-5-1 overall. Chico State improves to 3-5 in CCAA play and 5-6 overall.

East Bay enjoyed a decisive 19-5 advantage in total shots. Shianna Falk led the way with five shots. Kara Yamamoto followed with four attempts. Eugenie Foote and Ariana Gordon each had two shots.

Chico State scored first in the fourth minute when Scotie Walker scored from 10 yards out. The Pioneers had five unanswered shots before Walker added her second goal and fifth of the season in the 20th minute to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers came out aggressive in the second half and put pressure on the Wildcats backline. A header by Anne Dunne hit the crossbar in the 51st minute and back-to-back shots by Yamamoto were turned away by Wildcat goalkeeper Brianna Furner eight minutes later. Yamamoto had another shot go wide in the 69th minute.

Falk got the Pioneers on the scoreboard by converting a penalty kick in the 81st minute. For Falk, it was her team leading fifth goal of the season. The Pioneers continued the offensive attack as Allison Ventura attempt on goal went wide in the 82nd minute. East Bay's final scoring opportunity came in the 83rd minute when Zuly Diaz had a shot go high over the net.   

Cal State East Bay will host Cal State Stanislaus on October 7 at 2:00 p.m.
