“We have been in every game and have earned more results this year than any other,” Pioneer coach
Andy Cumbo said. “We have more possession than we've had in the past and we are also stronger defensively. We've improved every game and we're focused on finishing this last portion of league play with goals and points.”
Florian Reppin leads the Pioneers in scoring with eight points on two goals and four assists. Reppin is followed by
Javier Martin with three goals and one assist.
Rey Suarez has a team-best 23 shots.
The Pioneers continue to receive solid play from defenders
Timo Baeuerle,

Salvador Mendoza, and goalkeepers
Rene Martinez and
Bryce Bookhamer. In 12 games, Martinez has allowed 0.89 goals with 37 saves and a .860 save percentage. Bookhamer has yielded 1.61 goals with 21 saves in 12 games.
Cal Poly Pomona is fifth in the CCAA South Division with a 1-8-2 record. The Broncos, winless in their last five matches, are 3-8-2 for the season. Abraham Gomez has a team-best five goals in 12 games. Goalkeeper Kris Minton has one shutout, 26 saves and a 1.84 goals against average in 10 games in the net.
Cal State Monterey Bay is 2-8 in CCAA play and 2-9 for the season. The Otters defeated Sonoma State 1-0 on October 13. Servando Perez has scored three goals in 11 games for the Otters. Max Brixey, with one goal, has a team-best 26 shots. Goalkeeper Evan Drake has two shutouts in five games.
“We're excited to play this weekend,” Cumbo said. “We're glad to be going down to So Cal again. We didn't accomplish what we wanted to last trip and we need to check that box off. We've competed we'll on the road in the North, we want to say that about the South too. Both Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay are very competitive and playing hard for results. I expect two quality matches. We didn't like how things went in Seaside last month so we want to make good on that this Sunday in Hayward.”
The Pioneers will be home the final week of the CCAA regular season to face UC San Diego on October 26 and Cal State San Bernardino on October 28.
